About Vrata
What is Anagha Vrata?
Lord Dattatreya as Anagha Swami and and his consort Anagha Devi along with the Ashta Siddhis (the 8 Cosmic Powers) who are their sons are worshipped in the powerful Anaghashtami Vrata.
The details about this vrata are given in the Datta Purana compiled by Sage Vēda Vyāsa. Lord Dattatrēya Himself initiated the emperor Kartaveryarjuna into this worship. King Dasaratha and Lord Sri Rāma had also performed this puja. Sri Krishna had Dharmarāja perform it.

How long does it take to do the Vrata?
Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji has simplified the vrata procedure for the benefit of devotees to participate in the Yagna. Following the simplified version Vrata can be completed in about 12 minutes. There is also a special recording(available under Koti Yagna Links on this page) to complete 3 cycles of the Vrata in about 25 minutes. Puja mantra recordings is provided for the above.

Anyone can do this Vratam irrespective of religion, age, marital status etc.

Where can this Vrata be performed?
Pujya Sri Swamiji has instructed all to perform Anagha Vrata daily in their homes individually or in a group.

What Naivedya should be offered every day during Vrata Yagna?
Small quantity of Panchakajjayam or just dry dates or sugar granules can be used for one round of Vrata. (Panchakajjayam is powder of - Roasted Chana Dal, Dry Coconut, Sugar, Cashew/Nuts and dry dates)

Should Vrata story be read every day during the Yagna?
As per Pujya Sri Swamiji’s instructions, for this Yagna, the mantra “Sri Kartaveeryarjunaya Namaha” can be chanted 3 times at the conclusion of the puja instead of reading the story every day. However, the story must be read weekly once. Story will be read every Thursday during the vrata at the temple.

Should Toram be tied everyday after Vrata?
As per Pujya Sri Swamiji’s instructions, for this Yagna Toram can be tied weekly once. Story will be read every Thursday during the vrata at the temple and Toram will also be given.
Toram General Instructions: Place Toram in puja then tie onto one’s wrist. Next morning, remove Toram and tie it loosely to a tree.
Making Toram instructions: Obtain a spool in each color of red, white and yellow. Wool, sewing thread or crochet yarn may be used. Cut three threads of equal length from each color as needed to be tied around one’s wrist. Tie a single knot in the center with all three thread to keep them together. -
What can be used in place of flowers while doing Vrata?
Akshata’s (Rice grains with little or no turmeric) can be used instead of flowers, when we do this vratam, daily. These rice grains can be fed to the birds once udvasana is done.

Is there a limit how many times the Vrata can be done on a given day?
No there is no limit per day for the Vrata count and it is encouraged to perform the Vrata more than once per day in accordance to one’s interest and ability. Do submit counts daily.
